In a throw back to days gone by, high schools in America are requiring students to be enrolled in J.R.O.T.C.. J.R.O.T.C. is the acronym for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. I can't figure out what the big deal might be. There are parents that are all manner of peeved that their precious little angels are being forced to participate in America's military. For any reason. You will note that these are the same folk that get all manner of choked up anytime that America is encouraged to celebrate those brave souls that "defend America's freedoms." Back in the day, I'm about to get all nostalgic here, R.O.T.C. was mandatory in high school. You see I went to the very same high school as Tony Finau the golf pro. Oh that is so very true. I wander off topic just a bit. Way back then America was in this little dust up lovingly remembered as the War On Vietnam. Or for short, the Nam. Every last male of high school age could take R.O.T.C. or gym. Any number of high school guys, remembering how "fun" gym class could be in junior high opted for R.O.T.C.. Junior high school is what school districts call 'middle school' these days. All of today's school stuff is vastly different than back in the day. Now days school districts call the military association "J.R.O.T.C." The class isn't any different than back then but the experience sounds almost enticing. So and to the point, the ancient city/state of Sparta would separate young boys from moms and family and send the little Spartans off to get immersed in the skills of war and killing and being brothers in arms and all the fun shit like that there. So being today and almost a quarter of the way into the twenty first century, modern culture is still in need for young people to be prepared and ready to shed their blood for home and country. See Russia's war on Ukraine for our powerpoint presentation on the thrills of war. If you happen to personally know a Vietnam vet, ask them how fun the war really was. And politely ask that vet to tell the truth and not the pasteurized and homogenized version of today's retelling of the Nam. You just might learn something about our 'beloved' America you may have missed in American history class. America is in many respects just like ancient Sparta. We even have Brad Pitt playing the spiffed up version of Achilles. Good lord that movie was tedious. Hmmm, so is Pitt. Now for Tuesday's machine art.
