Cup Runneth Overtime

 I watched the World Cup Final game Sunday morning. Hearing the crowd cheering, chanting soccer tunes, and seeing France's Macron coaxing the French team on, well, it was a mite contagious. The commentator guys were excited and almost breathless as the game unfolded. As I understand the World Cup soccer crap, the match is supposed to last 90 minutes. 45 minutes in and the game is at half time. Then after commercials and mindless commentator drivel, the match resumes with the Argentines up 2-0 over the French. And then and just like that, the French tie the score and it's a match heading for overtime. Of course there has to be "extra time" and then the "overtime" and then with the score still tied the match is to be decided by "penalty kicks." There is much I don't understand about soccer and I really don't care. It's soccer and not NFL football. Argentina scores a "penalty kick" and then the French score a "penalty kick" and then more of that and then...and then...just like that the game is over with the Argentina team winning on "penalty kicks." Seems to me that the game would be a whole lot more interesting IF the teams played for a winning goal and not a lame ass "penalty kick." However that's just me. Evidently France's Macron was so upset with the French losing the match, Macron tossed his lunch all over the sorry folks sitting in the box below the box Macron was in. Dang if'n folks don't take that soccer World Cup nonsense WAY too seriously. Besides the Argentines had an unfair advantage. The Pope is from Argentina and so "god" was on the Argentina side. Talk about unfair. Wow-zers. Now for that Monday machine art and people will have to wait for the next World Cup happening in about 4 years time. I think that's how it all works.

back to the real world of football, the Vegas Raiders actually won their Sunday game against the Patriots. It was a rather bizarre finish to a game that appeared heading to overtime. The Patriots made a really stupid football last second play and got intercepted and the Raiders defender after the intercept, had a clear path to the end zone and game was over as time ran out. soccer could learn somethings if they ever bothered to pay attention. 😏
