BASE jumper learns a harsh lesson about gravity and an immoveable object known lovingly as the proverbial rock wall. Over in Kane Creek Canyon, that's by Moab, Utah, a man took a leap of faith off'n a cliff top where he and friends were BASE jumping for thrills and chills. The BASE jumper in question jumped and got caught up in a wind swirl then was slammed unmercifully into a solid rock wall that was posing as a cliff face and that pretty much ended his BASE jumping adventure. This novel encounter with fate happened Saturday last and that would have been November 26, 2022. BASE jumper was left hanging precariously from cliff face about 100 feet or so from the actual ground that the jumper was hoping to land on but no, he was body slammed into the cliff face fell a ways and his chute tangled with the cliff face which luckily saved his stupid ass. Where I live there are any number of folks that will pay good money to jump from an airplane and skydive all the way to the ground. You see there aren't any viciously solid rock cliff faces to face plant into around the area where the skydivers are jumping to. Down to? Anyway, these thrill seekers are ever so enchanting to watch. Loads of fun and I confess that I like to watch the jumpers out of a sick fascination to see one of the dummies fail to have a chute open and therefore plunge headlong onto the extremely hard pack desert surface. The desert surface is damn hard and you can trust me on that assessment. I walk on the surface of the Mojave Desert everyday. A skydivers adage goes..."it isn't the fall that will kill you, it's that sudden stop at the bottom." Does the trick every time. Skydivers are fun to watch and they are almost magical. A tad short on brains but what the hell, to each their own. Anyway the BASE jumper was rescued from the cliff face and taken to a local hospital where he's laid up in a hospital bed. BASE jumper guy will no doubt climb back into his BASE jumping gear and head for some damn high spot and try a jump again until he can get a jump right. Or finally meet death with an introduction by gravity. Now for some Thursday machine art and no BASE jumping allowed. Not here gad dang it.
