So the Turkey/Syria earthquake was actually two earthquakes. First there was a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey near the border with Syria and then about 9 hours later a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit a shade more inside Turkey but given the proximity to Syria, well, the devastation is spread over a fairly large chunk of countryside. The death toll changes in upward spikes just about every hour on the hour. Given that I'm keyboarding this on Monday evening, the death toll is racing past 3800 confirmed deceased and a spokesperson for the WHO (that's a U.N. branch) maintains the death toll will increase by at least a factor of 8. I'm really lousy at math so all I can glean is that there's gonna be one horrendous number of people killed. Couple all that death in Syria with Syria's ongoing civil war, holy number crunching, these good people will be traumatized for a damn long time. Rescue efforts are continuing nonstop under really freezing conditions. Next up would be President Joe's 'State of the Union' speech before Congress and some of the American people that may be bothered enough to pay attention just might watch. Now for Tuesday machine art and some somber prayers for those suffering all around our wobbly little blue speck of a home world.
