Gadzooks...He Did...What???

Dateline Salt Lake City..."guy steals excavator from construction site, digs himself a hole." So some guy harvests an excavator and then proceeds to dig shit up along 9th West and just about 8th South in Salt Lake. I know exactly where this happened. I grew up on Salt Lake's Westside and so I can pretty much vision all the collateral events. Dude tore out parking strip, dug up a water line, ripped out newly laid fiber optic cable that belongs to Google, BUT the guy didn't tear out any gas lines. Natural gas lines. Ripping out gas lines could have been one explosive situation. According to 'court documents', you had to know there'd be court documents, guy is 46 and had taken the "running excavator" from a construction site about a mile back up a road. The specific "road" did not receive any mention. Construction site crews followed the guy that had ganked the "running excavator" and as the guy is digging shit up, he then proceeds to drive to a local Smith's Market and I know exactly where the store is. I've shopped there on numerous occasions. Anyway, guy drives the excavator to Smith's where he is stopped by a crowd of shoppers present at the Smith's store. The intervening people are dang lucky then weren't "dug up" while everyone waited on Salt Lake P.D. to arrive and take Mister Ganker into custody. I'll be willing to bet this brought some excitement to the neighborhood. So the total cost of damages to city property is estimated at just over $40,000.00 and guy's "bail" was set at $1,000.00. I'm thinking that back at the "construction site" the site foreman is going to have a bucket load of explaining to do to the project supervisor. The construction crews will have a good laugh for a while and just before the site foreman gets back from his visit with the project supervisor. Foreman's coming back with a chapped ass and he'll take it out on the crews. That's how these things always turn out. Of course it isn't quite the usual to leave an excavator unattended and especially an excavator that's running. Damn if'n they aren't having some good times back on the Home World. Now for some Monday machine art without any accompanying excavators.
