Memorial Day Is Not ...

Memorial Day is not really about memories. Memorial Day was created to honor and remember all those who have died in military service to the United States of America, both in times of peace and war. Basically Memorial Day honors service. Military service and has not squat to do with mattress sales or car sales or restaurants or goddamn anything to do with trump. By way of subtle reminder, service to these United States has nothing to do with democrats or republicans or libertarians or anything political. Certainly not anything current in politics. Memorial Day has devolved into a day to head to your local cemetery and stick a flag or flowers on the graves of deceased family members. Should you community be lucky enough to have an active chapter of VFW or DAV, those chapters will head to local cemeteries to plant flags on the graves of fallen military members AND members of our military that have gone belly up after service to America. So and in keeping with current ways and means of honoring Memorial Day ... drink copious amounts of beer, fire up the barbie, burn some burgers or hot dogs or chicken wings or whatever one can find in a local supermarket that is still affordable and not made prohibitively expensive due to trump's tariffs jacking up the prices on groceries. After our Saturday trip to Walmart for weekly shopping, prices on all things grocery are jacked up like you won't believe until you can see for yourself. Fucking bullshit no doubt. It is entirely possible that our America as we all have come to know it might not survive trump. Now for Sunday machine art.

back in my way younger days, America did a 'draft' or conscription and, upon your 18th birthday you were required to head to your local draft board and sign on the dotted line and that made you eligible for the draft. we were let out of school for the signing up drill. 18 year old male Americans had no choice in the matter, you signed or got arrested. Yeah the government was tracking every last American male since the day of your birth. just like today. 18 year olds still have to register with the draft board but there isn't a draft. for now. we all got drafted and that included moi. most of my peer group drafted went to the Nam and never came back. however their names came back and were inscribed on the wall of the Vietnam War Memorial in Babylon-On-The-Potomac. 😐
